calf in the stable

Preparing for calving

During the last two months of gestation period, it is important to prepare the cow for calving by paying attention to the extra needs of the cow during this period. For example, excessive weight loss can lead to the premature birth of the calf and future difficulties in breeding your cow again. While excessive fattening at the end of gestation is not only expensive and unnecessary, but it also leads to complications at calving.

Calving

Supplementation with minerals and vitamins during the final phase of gestation is important for healthy calving without complications. Deficiencies around the calving period may cause problems such as difficult calving, difficulties releasing the afterbirth, colostrum with low IgG (immunoglobulin) levels, slowed involution of the uterus... For the young calf, it can lead to deficiencies at birth and the consumption of lower-quality colostrum.
