The sow transition period: the period after farrowing

In the last week of pregnancy, we prepare your sows for the farrowing process and the start of milk production. Crucially, it is important you keep your sows fit and eager so that they progress to their maximum feed intake sufficiently quickly at the start of lactation. This is important for achieving a good start to milk production, as well as essential for piglet development, minimising the risk of any loss of condition.

Maintaining good condition with transition feed

Transition feed during this period stimulates the sow’s calcium metabolism, supporting the farrowing process and start of milking.
