What to do after the milking period?
Weaning is an important stage in rearing calves. Calves should therefore be weaned gradually and carefully by reducing calves’ milk intake. Therefore, choosing the right concentrate feed is important in preventing rumen acidification in dairy cows.
The stimulation of the rumen by developing absorption capacity is very much related to the consumption of starter feed. Therefore, choosing the right concentrate feed is important in preventing rumen acidification in dairy cows.
Calves can be weaned when:
Intake of concentrate feed is at least 2 kg per calf per day
The calf has at least doubled its birth weight or achieved an average daily growth of at least 800 grams per day.
